Music for Movies.

Method Acting and Motion Pictures.

...and the "father" or origins of it all...

The random twenty,
May seem like plenty
But after twenty days
You may not have seen consistency in my ways
There may be a day for you or you or all 20 for me
But the twenty days were for the year's end and seemed plenty
But as each day unfolds
A new musical story is told
Leading to my next unknown step
Leading to the things I have to learn yet
Some come in during days and others nights
Happy Holidays Happy New Year may it be just right!

Here's to all the new music and old discoveries along the way in 2011!

Two for Talib....

Two.

Talib.

Just to get by.

This morning, I woke up
Feeling brand new and I jumped up
Feeling my highs, and my lows
In my soul, and my goals
Just to stop smokin, and stop drinkin
And I've been thinkin - I've got my reasons
Just to get by, Just to get...

Three.

For you, I caught a lot of static
And me, I would like it automatic
Ah-what what what what what did you think would happen next?
Ah-what what what what what could it ever be?
Though its time to get away, its time to get away from you
I’m dying to get away, I’m dying to get away
Next time let’s talk about it
And maybe start again

4. No one's gonna love this song more than I do...except maybe Cee-Lo!

I love this song. Love it in the am, love it at night, loved it in Zombieland.

Apparently a one Mr.Cee-Lo likes it as well?

Six.

...another number game...#6, on 12/12...

No splitting any difference though, and it's NOT six one way or half a dozen the other...

Don't know why, but I've felt the need to add more than one each time...so it's not really 20 songs, but 20 entries - like on random, in 20 days..

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Seven.

In a weird flow, this series has had some odd numerical cycles. We find ourselves back again for a second time at #7, on the 11th or 7-11.

This Flo has got serious Mojo.

This is going to be a great artist to watch.

Fourteen.

People steal, they cheat and lie
For wealth and what it will buy
Don't they know on the judgement day
That their gold and silver will melt away

I'd rather be in a deep, dark grave
And know that my poor soul was saved
Than to live in this world in a house of gold
And deny my God and doom my soul

What good is gold and silver too
If your heart’s not good and true
Sinner, hear me when I say
Fall down on your knees and pray

Twenty in Twenty

The random twenty,
May seem like plenty
But after twenty days
You may not see consistency in my ways
There may be a day for you or you or all 20 for me
There may be 20 days of straight country
But as each day unfolds
A new musical story is told
Leading to my next unknown step
Leading to the things I have to learn yet
Some come in during days and others nights
Here is the first of a Random Twenty to burn it up bright...

Sweet, sweet Roy...whoooeee.

September 13th -cool, rainy, jazzy -autumnal...

September 13th

..while the lyrics to this one may serve this post better, Wes always serves it better (even if it is over the top with schmaltzy production...)

Tal Farlow's birthday...and a fine way to wrap up (even though Coryell doesn't seem to be able to do so on his solo!)

Part II:

It all depends on how you drink the wine...

"How You Drink the Wine"
by, Mel Tillis

Well I sat down at a table next to the party
And I could see they were having of good time
So I ordered up a bottle of the same thing they were drinking
But it didn't do a thing to ease my mind

Oh it all depends on how you drink the wine
When I turn to the bottle heartaches is all I find
Some people get happy but I just keep on crying
Yes it all depends on how you drink the wine

When I look in the bottle I see your reflection
But I turn it up and drink it like a fool
This wine don't kill my feelings so I might as well be leaving
And let somebody else have my stool

Yes it all depends on how you drink the wine...
Yes it all depends on how you drink the wine

Live...

Inspired by Nashville again, here are a few more to enjoy!

High up on the ridge, and slide mandolin...

These guys are KILLER. Some very DEEP and HIGH singing.

"Why should I keep loving you..."

sing it Freddy...

"I'm on my way to New Orleans this morning
Leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee
They're always having a good time down on the Bayou, Lord
Them delta women think the world of me"

Special..

This makes me proud...just that they worked together.

Train Songs Vol.1

...sometimes the heat makes you want to get out of town, while sometimes other things make you want to or need to leave town. The rhythm of the train and it's driving metaphor make for a powerful musical vehicle...

don't know why I thought of this one first...

couldn't find Dylan...so, here's Jerry!

keeping with jerry and trains, I wanted to find the version from The Grateful Dead Movie but we'll make due..

Beck...Well done.

Hank, Sr....

"He said he's going back to find a simpler place and time..."

Clapton with the great Scotty Moore

Part II rollin' on down the line!

Trying to double talk, get myself in trouble talk...

"Trying to double talk, get myself in trouble talk, catching myself in lies
Catching myself in lies
Mama just looked at me as if I was, ah, crazy
And didn’t even bat an eye
So I began to try to explain, ah that it just wasn’t what she thought
I’d better find something to do with my time
The fact is ah just been caught, just been caught,
Sneakin, sneakin, sneakin..."

She says, "Who gonna take away his license to kill?"

Man thinks 'cause he rules the earth he can do with it as he please
And if things don't change soon, he will
Oh, man has invented his doom
First step was touching the moon.

Now there's a woman on my block

She just sit there as the night grows still
She say who gonna take away his license to kill?

Now, they take him and they teach him and they groom him for life

And they set him on a path where he's bound to get ill
Then they bury him with stars
Sell his body like they do used cars.

Now, there's a woman on my block

She just sit there facing the hill
She say who gonna take away his license to kill?

Now, he's hell-bent for destruction, he's afraid and confused

And his brain has been mismanaged with great skill
All he believe are his eyes
And his eyes, they just tell him lies.

But there's a woman on my block

Sitting there in a cold chill
She say who gonna take away his license to kill?

Ya may be a noisemaker, spirit maker

Heartbreaker, backbreaker
Leave no stone unturned
May be an actor in a plot
That might be all that you got
'Til your error you clearly learn.

Now he worships at an altar of a stagnant pool

And when he sees his reflection, he's fulfilled
Oh, man is opposed to fair play
He wants it all and he wants it his way.

Now, there's a woman on my blocks

She just sit there as the night grows still
She say who gonna take away his license to kill?

Unearthed timeless possessions, finding myself in regression, but somehow in sync with this sense of place, leads to this song succession:

Viernes en La Primavera...

The greatest lost track of all time:
The Late Greats' "Turpentine"
You can't hear it on the radio
You can't hear it anywhere you go

The best band will never get signed
K-Settes starring Butcher's Blind
Are so good, you won't ever know
They never even played a show
You can't hear 'em on the radio

The greatest singer in rock and roll
Would have to be Romeo
His vocal chords are made of gold
He just looks a little too old

The greatest lost track of all time:
The Late Greats' "Turpentine"
I can't hear it on the radio
I don't hear it anywhere I go

The best song will never get sung
The best life never leaves your lungs
So good, you won't ever know
I never hear it on the radio
Can't hear it on the radio

El Jueves...

Well, I am still on fire from the Atoms For Peace show in NYC
(*Click on band name for link to clip that gives a small taste of what we locked into)

That being said, the list is for your Thursday, good times, weekend or whatever, but certainly for all kinds of deep grooves...

We start with the master from his epic 1971 Paris performance. The video DOES clear up soon after it starts and is well worth sticking around for the guitar solo (Ain't it Funky)...

How can we not drop Herbie in on this party?

Which leads to a more modern, but somewhat familiar sound:

This hip shaker was is probably still ahead of it's time...

Has this week dragged past you so slowly?
I know a band that covers this tune REALLY well...

Gonna slow it up to "ladies choice" for this skate, for one of my favorite tunes...EVER. Grab a partner.

If we are talking bout funk, we probably should bring in the horns...like T.O.P? Prob. They know what hipness is. (be sure to check out the original recording as well!)

What is Hip? TV on the Radio...This is a fire-starter. "Fela" keys and raging horns...

Every person in the world should check out the early Pointer Sisters stuff...ie...

...and last but NOT least, the dude who made this all happen...

Perhaps my favorite guy around right now after the show I saw him put on last night.

Enjoy. Rock it this weekend.

Plunderin' Plenty 'O Pluckin'

There is precision and perfection on the road to Dick Dale, Surf City, and Brian Setzer....

Chet and James Burton are two of my favorites, with an obvious Carl Perkins as well...

Here is a taste of some of the burning tele-licks as well as a demonstration in pure guitar precision and perfection.

Enjoy!
